HCMC - The Ministry of Health has confirmed 330 new Covid-19 cases, including 321 domestic infections and nine imported ones, taking the country’s Covid-19 tally to 23,071 as of this evening, July 7.
Among the 321 domestic infections, 149 were reported in HCMC, 60 in Binh Duong, 41 in Khanh Hoa, 24 in Vinh Long, 18 in Tien Giang, eight in Phu Yen, five each in Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen and Dong Thap, three in Hanoi, two in Bac Giang and one in Thanh Hoa.
Eight of the new imported cases were detected in Tay Ninh. They returned to Vietnam through the province’s Moc Bai International Border Gate between June 27 and July 4.
The other imported case was a man that arrived in Tan Chau Town, An Giang Province on July 4.
The total number of Covid-19 infections reported today was 1,007, including 997 community transmissions and 10 imported cases.
Up to now, 8,557 Covid-19 patients in the country have fully recovered, including 480 people discharged from the hospital today.
With the number of new Covid-19 cases continuing to surge, HCMC is taking all possible measures to put the pandemic under control.
The city has appointed deputy director of the Department of Health Nguyen Huu Hung as head of the board of directors of the HCMC Center for Disease Control.
Hung will be in charge of leading the center in the fight against Covid-19, ensuring the smooth operation, quick response and safety of the center.
His current tasks will be taken over by the director and other members of the HCMC Department of Health.
“In the context of the complicated Covid-19 situation, specific assignments for the healthcare leaders will help Covid-19 containment activities become more effective,” said Nguyen Thi Huynh Mai, chief of staff of the HCMC Department of Health.
The city has also decided to impose a 15-day social distancing period citywide in line with the Prime Minister's Directive 16, starting from July 9.
This is the second time that the city is imposing a citywide social distancing drive. The first one lasted 22 days early last April.
Long An, which borders HCMC, will also impose social distancing on the entire province from July 8.
Besides, people coming to Long An must have a Covid-19 negative test certificate issued by the competent agencies within five days before they enter the province.
