Japan says to donate another one million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Vietnam

HCMC – Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi at a press conference today, June 25, announced that Japan will donate an additional one million doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine to Vietnam, according to the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan and Vietnam’s national health authority.
Accordingly, along with a batch of one million Covid-19 vaccine doses donated by Japan that arrived in Vietnam on June 16, the total number of doses given to Vietnam by Japan will reach two million doses.
Earlier, the majority of the first batch was allocated to HCMC, which is being battered by the coronavirus.
According to the Ministry of Health, Vietnam is expected to receive a batch of 1.6 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine provided by the COVAX Facility in the first week of July. The country will also get over 90,000 doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine next month.
The Health Ministry is set to vaccinate 70% of the country’s population and achieve community immunity in the first half of 2022 at the latest.
Aside from the batch of one million Covid-19 vaccine doses given to Vietnam, the Japanese Foreign Minister revealed that Japan is working on sending one million doses of the AstraZenenca vaccine to each of Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan, Reuters reported.
