Gold Prices Continue to Rise Amid Economic Uncertainty

On August 26, gold prices continued their upward trajectory, with international gold listed on Kitco at $4,679 per ounce, marking a $7 increase from the previous morning. The persistent rise in gold prices comes as investors closely monitor inflation trends, economic growth, and the monetary policies of the U.S. Federal Reserve.

Experts note that gold remains a favored asset despite high long-term yields in the U.S. This trend reflects a hedge against the uncertain fiscal plans of the U.S., ongoing inflation, and the potential volatility of risk assets amid high valuations and increased funding in the artificial intelligence sector.

Long-term support for gold is also driven by a broader trend of de-dollarization, as global organizations diversify their portfolios, reduce holdings in U.S. Treasury bonds, and shift towards gold. However, the potential for overbought conditions could lead to price corrections.

Current Gold Prices

  • As of 6 AM on August 25, the price of SJC gold bars was listed at 147.6 million VND per tael for buying and 150.6 million VND for selling, reflecting a rise of 600,000 VND in both directions since the previous morning.
  • The price of SJC gold rings is currently at 147.1 - 150.1 million VND per tael, also up by 600,000 VND.
  • International gold prices are reported at $4,679 per ounce, up by $7 since the morning.

Price Forecasts

Many forecasts suggest that gold prices are likely to continue rising, especially after the U.S. Treasury unexpectedly expanded its long-term bond buyback program. A weakening U.S. dollar and declining bond yields are key drivers for the precious metal. If gold maintains its position above $4,600 per ounce, it could aim for $4,700. Conversely, if it drops below $4,500, prices may retreat to around $4,390.

Naeem Aslam, Chief Investment Officer at Zaye Capital Markets, believes that gold is supported by various factors, including geopolitical tensions, expectations of interest rate cuts, and signs that tight monetary policies are pressuring the economy. Aslam notes that if geopolitical tensions escalate while bond yields cool and the U.S. dollar recovers minimally, gold may remain above $4,500 per ounce. However, stronger-than-expected economic data could push real yields higher, leading gold into a consolidation phase.

Positive forecasts for gold prices in 2026 have also been highlighted by experts at Kitco News, who predict that the precious metal could reach $4,900 in the future.
