Vietnamese Banks Reduce Interest Rates, Launch 220 Trillion VND Credit Package

Vietnamese Banks Reduce Interest Rates, Launch 220 Trillion VND Credit Package

Following the directive from the State Bank of Vietnam regarding the implementation of a credit program aimed at boosting economic growth and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), several commercial banks have announced preferential lending packages. These packages include interest rate reductions ranging from 0.5 to 2 percentage points.

The Big Four banks—Agribank, VietinBank, BIDV, and Vietcombank—are leading this initiative, collectively committing to a total of 220 trillion VND in preferential credit. Agribank has introduced the largest package, valued at 70 trillion VND, which will be available from August 2026 until 2028. This package offers interest rates reduced by 1 to 2 percentage points compared to the average lending rates for similar terms.

The focus of Agribank's preferential credit package is on SMEs and individuals engaged in priority sectors, including agriculture, high-tech industries, exports, and projects classified as green initiatives.

VietinBank, BIDV, and Vietcombank have each announced their own preferential credit packages, each worth 50 trillion VND. These packages are also targeted at businesses and individuals in priority sectors and are set to remain available until December 31, 2026, with interest rates reduced by at least 1 percentage point.

In addition to the Big Four, several joint-stock commercial banks are also participating in this initiative. LPBank has introduced a 2 trillion VND credit package, effective until December 2026, with a minimum interest rate reduction of 1 percentage point compared to standard lending rates. This package is aimed at SMEs with good cash flow and stable revenue.

Similarly, BVBank has launched a preferential loan package totaling 2.5 trillion VND, with interest rates starting at 9.7% per annum, also reduced by at least 1 percentage point. BVBank aims to streamline its approval processes to expedite loan disbursement.

National Citizen Bank (NCB) is offering a uniform interest rate reduction of 0.5 percentage points for all loan terms to SMEs, prioritizing funding for green projects and infrastructure development.

The widespread implementation of these preferential lending packages is part of the State Bank's strategy to reduce costs, balance resources, and support both citizens and businesses, contributing to the goal of achieving economic growth of over 10% in 2026, as outlined in the government's Resolution 168/NQ-CP.
