Bank Interest Rates Update: New 9% Rate for 6-Month Deposits

On July 27, 2026, the interest rates for bank deposits in Vietnam saw some significant updates. Notably, one bank has introduced an attractive rate of 9% per annum for deposits with a term of six months. This comes as part of a broader trend among banks to offer competitive rates to attract savers.

According to the online interest rate schedule from Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank), the bank is offering higher rates for online deposits compared to in-branch deposits, with different rates depending on the deposit amount. For instance, customers depositing between 100 million to under 300 million VND can earn interest rates ranging from 4.75% to 8.5% per annum. For deposits from 300 million to under 1 billion VND, the rates vary from 4.75% to 8.6% per annum.

Furthermore, deposits ranging from 1 billion to under 3 billion VND can earn rates between 4.75% and 8.7% per annum. Notably, those depositing amounts from 3 billion to under 10 billion VND can receive interest rates from 4.75% to 8.8% per annum. However, for customers making online deposits of 50 billion VND or more, the maximum interest rate can reach up to 9% per annum for terms of six to twelve months.

VPBank's Cake product is also offering a standard interest rate of 7.2% per annum for six-month deposits, with varying rates for different payout options. Customers opting for monthly, quarterly, or end-of-term interest payouts can receive rates of 6.78%, 7.02%, and 7.09% respectively. Additionally, first-time depositors can enjoy an extra 1.8% interest rate boost, allowing for a potential total of 9% for six-month deposits.

In the short-term deposit category, several banks are continuing to offer a standard rate of 4.75% per annum for terms between three to six months, which is the maximum rate allowed for deposits under six months as per the regulations of the State Bank of Vietnam. Banks such as Cake by VPBank, Nam A Bank, MBV, and others are maintaining this rate.

Overall, these developments indicate a competitive banking environment in Vietnam, with banks striving to attract more depositors through appealing interest rates. Customers are advised to stay updated on these rates as they can change frequently.
