Six-Month Savings Interest Rates Reach Up to 9%

Six-Month Savings Interest Rates Reach Up to 9%

Recent surveys indicate that six-month savings interest rates at various banks in Vietnam are currently ranging from 6.5% to 9% per annum. This increase allows depositors to earn significant interest on their savings. For instance, depositing 1 billion VND can yield up to 45 million VND in interest after six months if the maximum rate of 9% is applied.

Current Interest Rates Offered by Banks

Cake by VPBank has announced a standard interest rate of 7.2% per annum for six-month deposits, with different rates available depending on the withdrawal method. If customers choose to receive interest at the end of the term, the rate remains at 7.2%. However, if they opt for monthly or quarterly withdrawals, the rates drop to 7.02% and 7.09%, respectively. Additionally, Cake by VPBank is promoting a special offer this July, allowing customers to earn an extra 1.8% for deposits starting from 5 million VND, potentially raising the total interest rate to 9%.

Other banks are also offering competitive rates. BAC A BANK lists its six-month savings interest rate at 7.05% per annum, while PGBank offers 6.9% for end-of-term interest payments. VCBNeo has a lower rate of 6.5% for similar terms.

Calculating Potential Earnings

To illustrate the potential earnings from these savings rates, here are some calculations based on a deposit of 1 billion VND:

  • At Cake by VPBank with a 9% rate: approximately 45 million VND in interest.
  • At Cake by VPBank with a standard rate of 7.2%: approximately 36 million VND.
  • At BAC A BANK with a 7.05% rate: approximately 35.25 million VND.
  • At PGBank with a 6.9% rate: approximately 34.5 million VND.
  • At VCBNeo with a 6.5% rate: approximately 32.5 million VND.

It is essential for depositors to note that the highest interest rates often come with specific conditions, such as online deposits or first-time savings accounts. Before making a deposit, customers are advised to compare rates across banks and verify the terms and conditions to ensure they receive the best possible return on their investment.
