CAAV proposes adding nine new airports

HCMC – After a month of working with 10 provinces that proposed including their local airports in the national airport plan, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has given the go-ahead to nine airport projects.

CAAV submitted a document on the results to the Transport Ministry after working with the 10 provinces seeking to include their airports in a draft master plan for the airport network nationwide from now until 2030 and with a vision until 2050.

During the working session, the CAAV joined hands with planning consultants and air traffic units to review, study and make assessments for each locality.

Accordingly, the CAAV proposed adding nine airports in Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Ha Tinh, Kon Tum, Quang Ngai, Khanh Hoa, Dak Nong and Tay Ninh.

Moc Chau Airport, situated in Son La Province, is the only airport not chosen due to the unfavorable foggy weather in the Moc Chau Forest. The province also agreed to use the airport for other specific purposes.

The CAAV suggested the chosen localities map out feasible plans and methods to mobilize private sector investments for the construction.

To be included in the plan, the airports must meet six criteria set by the Transport Ministry in terms of goods output, socio-economic development, national defense security, emergency aid, natural conditions and the accessibility range.
