HCMC – Central provinces from Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Tri, Quang Nam to Danang are racing against time to repair roads damaged by recent floods and landslides.

In Danang City, torrential rains on October 14 caused around 50 landslides on the routes leading to Son Tra Island, which were blocked by a landslide.

The island’s management board has prohibited people and vehicles from entering the area. The restoration is scheduled to be finished by mid-November.

In Quang Nam Province, a thousand cubic meters of soil and rock blocked traffic through Tu Nhu Village as a result of a landslide triggered by flood, isolating 170 families with 350 residents, according to Nong Son District.

In Quang Tri Province, heavy rains flooded roads in several districts, including Dakrong, Huong Hoa, and Hai Lang. Landslides obstructed traffic on the road connecting La Lay Border Gate and Laos, and the road was reopened on October 24.

In Thua Thien-Hue, roadway units were mobilized to repair the eroded sites on National Highway No.1, linking the hills of Hai Van and Phuoc Tuong.

National Highway No.49 was inundated in four areas, causing serious congestion. Besides, the west side of Ho Chi Minh Road was found to show signs of damage.

The Thua Thien-Hue Road Management and Project Construction Joint Stock Company has mobilized people to closely oversee and raise measures to ensure traffic safety.
