Beautiful Nguom Ngao Cave, an irresistible check-in destination when traveling to Cao Bang

The large interior space, flat walking path and a magnificent system of natural stalactites are the plus points that make it difficult for tourists to skip Nguom Ngao cave when having a trip to Cao Bang province.

In addition, another advantage that makes Nguom Ngao cave attract tourists is that the cave is located on the route to Ban Gioc waterfall (in Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province).

Starting from Cao Bang city (Cao Bang province), visitors travel about 90 km, go through Ma Phuc and Khau Lien pass, follow the 206 provincial road and meet a signpost to enter Nguom Ngao cave. As usual, many tourist groups will choose Nguom Ngao cave as the first place to visit, then explore Ban Gioc waterfall.

According to the guide's explanation, Nguom Ngao cave is the local name in the language of the Tay ethnic group and there are two different interpretations.

Nguom Ngao in Tay language means tiger cave. According to the local’s legend, in the past, this cave was the living place and abode of fierce tigers. As for the second explanation, inside the cave, there is water flowing into the rock arches, creating a sound similar to the roar of a tiger, so Nguom Ngao cave is also known as the roaring tiger cave.

According to published scientific documents, Nguom Ngao cave was discovered in 1921, is a limestone cave formed about 400 million years ago, with a total length of about 3 km.

In 1996, Nguom Ngao cave began to be put into tourism exploitation by Cao Bang authority. In 1998, Nguom Ngao cave was recognized as a national scenic destination. From 1996 to 2021, tourists mainly visit the interior of the cave with a length of nearly 1 km, with a total walking time of about 40 - 50 minutes.

On the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Nguom Ngao cave, in December 2021, Cao Bang province continues to announce a new tourist route in this cave, the Ban Thuon tourist route, invested in a system of lighting roads, pedestrian bridges, boat rowing route in the cave...

Through the survey and announcement of Cao Bang province, this new sightseeing route is assessed to have more beautiful and majestic scenes than the old route, which will bring more interesting experiences to tourists when visiting and exploring one of the most beautiful caves in Vietnam.

On the first step in the cave, many visitors are surprised by the beauty of the stalactites that are very similar to the shape of a ginseng.

Inside the Nguom Ngao cave, there are many large spaces, visitors can freely enjoy the beauty of stalactites.

The water flowing from the top of the cave over hundreds of millions of years creates spectacular gold like sand and waterfall-shaped stalactites inside Nguom Ngao cave.
