The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has just announced a list of 32 destinations worldwide as “Best Tourist Villages in 2022”.
Contributing to the list is the Thai Hai eco-ethnic stilt village conservation area in Vietnam. This is a conservation area in the style of stilt houses imbued with the culture of the Nung and Tay ethnic groups in Thai Nguyen .
Thai Hai owns a scale of up to 25 hectares with mountains, trees, flowers and large lakes, especially 30 stilt houses hundreds of years old. These stilt houses are from Dinh Hoa – Thai Nguyen ATK area and have been restored to keep the original to preserve, preserve and promote in the best way. According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the award aims to recognize rural destinations that see tourism as a driving force for development and a new opportunity to create jobs and income, while preserving and promoting their values and products. community products.
The award also honors villages that are committed to innovation and sustainable development orientation in economic, social, and environmental aspects and focus on developing tourism in line with sustainable development goals. Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs).
In 2022, a total of 136 villages were considered for nomination by 57 UNWTO member countries. Of these, 32 villages from 18 countries around the world have been recognized and awarded. Tourism villages are evaluated by an independent Advisory Board based on a set of criteria: cultural and natural resources; resources for cultural preservation and promotion; economic, social and environmental sustainability; tourism development and value chain linkage; tourism management and priorities; infrastructure and connectivity; health , safety and security.

Along with the 32 best tourist villages, another 20 villages will be selected to participate in an upgrade program. All 52 villages will form part of the UNWTO’s Global Network of Best Tourist Villages (established in 2021, which has brought together 115 villages from five continents to date). The network offers a number of benefits including on-site and online training, experience sharing, and increased international brand awareness and recognition.
According to UNWTO, the award ceremony will take place in Saudi Arabia on February 27-28, 2023.
