Inside the hundred-year-old house with “unique” architecture in Ha Giang

The handmade stone walls, yin-yang roof tile, … of the house over a hundred years old in Meo Vac cause curiosity to tourists. This place preserves the unique cultural beauty of the H’Mong people.

Ha Giang is not only famous for its majestic and poetic natural scenery, but also attracts visitors by ancient houses with a hundred years of age, colored in time through each wall, tile roof …

Tourism blogger Vinh Bear (real name Le Viet Vinh) still remembers his first time feeling at the old house of Ho Hoa in Meo Vac town, Meo Vac district, Ha Giang province.

“I have been to Ha Giang a few times, but this is the first time I have been to visit the old house of Hoa Pa. The building was built over a hundred years. However, everything is still very intact, from the architecture of the old house to the layout of the space, the interior makes me feel like I’m enjoying the life of an ancient H’Mong “, he said.

Inside the hundred-year-old house with “unique” architecture in Ha Giang
The Old House of Ho Hua (French name is Auberge de Meo Vac – Meo Vac inn) was once built in the architectural style of the Han elite in southern China.
The work is like a fortress with 4 rows of roofs connected together to form a quadrilateral. Currently, 2 rows of houses have been restored to preserve the special traditional architecture of the H’Mong people and as a place to stay for tourists visiting Meo Vac.
To make solid houses at the head of the country, ancient owners often choose the soil with the best cohesion and then filter out the trash and tree roots. Workers put each layer of cleaned soil into a wooden mold about 1.5m long and 50cm wide. Then use the stick to continuously knock on the mold to compact the soil.
Over time, layers of soil are piled up to form a straight, solid wall. With selected materials and special construction, the house is cool in summer and warm in winter, suitable for the rocky plateau climate conditions. Because of that, people here often call these houses made of land “house reports”.
The fence walls are made up of many stones of different sizes very firmly, showing the ingenuity and ingenuity of the ancient house builders.
Some details such as the stone pedestals are delicately carved with the sow shape or the poppy symbol at the foot of the pillar, … expressing the wealth and generosity of the ancient owner.
Especially, on the roofs of yin and yang typical of the H’Mong people in Ha Giang, the symbol of anise often appears. The housekeeper of the ancient Ho Pua house revealed that the anise flower does not really carry much spiritual meaning. It is merely the characteristic ingredient in the famous triumph of the rocky plateau.
The main house has 3 rooms, designed in traditional style. A space for the host couple. The second space for children or guests, and the third space to put a fireplace, dining table … The upper floor also has a similar design. The rooms are separated by precious stone pine panels.
In the house, the main use is sandwood and pompano. These are types of wood with high durability, over time the color becomes more beautiful.
In addition to the main house with its intricately handcrafted walls, there is also a newly restored two-story wooden block. Unlike the main house, which includes rooms that are separated, the wooden block is used as a space for collective activities. The upper floor includes bedrooms for many people (dorm rooms) and the lower floor is the place to welcome guests, check-in, …
The large windows are suitable as a place for tourists to relax, admire the scenery, sip a cup of tea. From here, the natural scenery outside appears as beautiful as a square framed picture.
Some outdoor spaces are furnished by the owner to serve as a corner for visitors to check-in and take pictures.
“Although it is an old house with many items bearing imprints of time, but the space still ensures comfort for visitors. Designing a convenient, clean and friendly toilet area in European style is one of the points. made me impressed with this house “, Mr. Vinh said.
Not only experienced in the ancient space, bearing many typical cultural features of the White Mong and recorded the most impressive pictures, blogger 8X also enjoyed some “famous” dishes here.
In the cooking space of the old house, there is always a kitchen sausage made from pork and sticky corn wine made by the owner. Seeing with their own eyes, eating the specialties of the rocky plateau in an ancient and warm space makes any visitor remember forever.

During a short time stopping at the old house, the thing blogger Vinh Bear regretted most was that he was alone here, so he did not have the opportunity to see the Khen performers perform.
