Alexis Mac Allister Expresses Disappointment Over Liverpool's Contract Decision
Alexis Mac Allister has expressed his sadness over Liverpool's decision not to offer him a new contract this

New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell has made the decision to opt for a casual playing contract with the Black Caps, stepping away from his position on the central contract list. This move comes as Bracewell seeks opportunities in Australia's domestic Big Bash League, a popular T20 cricket competition. In his absence, left-handed batter Nick Kelly has been named as his replacement on the central contract list.
Bracewell's decision follows a trend among New Zealand players, as last month Mark Chapman also opted for a casual playing contract for the 2026/27 season. Other players like Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, and Tim Seifert have previously chosen this route, indicating a shift in how some players are approaching their careers.
Despite stepping back from the central contract, Bracewell remains committed to the Black Caps and has made himself available for the upcoming white-ball series at home against India. The 35-year-old all-rounder, who has accumulated 105 international caps, expressed gratitude for the support from New Zealand Cricket, stating, "The backing from New Zealand Cricket for me to take this opportunity at this stage of my career means a lot. As a white-ball only player, this felt like too good of an opportunity to pass up. I’m still very much committed to the Black Caps and can’t wait to be involved in the upcoming India tour and future white-ball series."
On the other hand, Nick Kelly, who has been promoted to a full-time contract for the first time in his career, has been recognized for his consistent performances in domestic cricket. New Zealand coach Rob Walter praised Kelly's efforts, saying, "Nick’s been a standout performer in domestic cricket for several seasons now and it’s testament to his hard work that he’s earned this first contract at this stage of his career. Introducing players like Nick to international cricket a bit later certainly has its advantages in terms of the player knowing their game and being able to trust themselves to perform under pressure."
With these developments, the New Zealand cricket landscape continues to evolve, showcasing the balance between nurturing emerging talent and providing experienced players with flexible career options.
