Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team Faces Tough Loss to South Korea

The Vietnam women's volleyball team faced a tough start at the 2026 Asian Championship, losing to South Korea with a score of 1-3 on August 22. Despite the loss, the team demonstrated resilience, particularly in the second set where they managed to secure a victory.

In the first set, Vietnam began strongly, creating a competitive atmosphere. Thanh Thuy was a standout performer, scoring six points, but South Korea's effective blocking allowed them to take the set 25-20. The second set saw Vietnam rally back from a 4-9 deficit, with Thanh Thuy and her teammates showing tenacity to equalize at 20-20. Quynh Huong contributed six points, while both Thanh Thuy and Nhu Anh added five points each, leading Vietnam to a 25-22 win and leveling the match.

However, South Korea regained control in the third set, with Bich Thuy scoring six points and Thanh Thuy adding four. Vietnam struggled with consistency at crucial moments, allowing South Korea to win 25-21 and take a 2-1 lead. In the fourth set, Vietnam fought hard to push the match to a fifth set, but the South Korean defense proved too strong. South Korea maintained pressure and closed out the match with a 25-17 win.

After the match, Vietnam found themselves in third place in Group C, trailing Japan and South Korea. Japan leads with three points, followed by South Korea, also with three points, while Hong Kong sits at the bottom. Vietnam still has a chance to compete for a quarterfinal spot, needing strong performances in their upcoming matches against Hong Kong on August 24 and Japan on August 25.

Although they couldn't secure a win against South Korea, the performance of Thanh Thuy and her teammates showcased their fighting spirit. The victory in the second set indicates that Vietnam has the potential to challenge stronger opponents in the tournament.
