Manchester United has been advised to consider signing a more experienced goalkeeper to replace Senne Lammens for the upcoming season. Micky Gray, a former player, believes that while Lammens has had a commendable first season, the demands of playing in both the Premier League and Champions League may prove too challenging for the young keeper.

Lammens, who joined Manchester United from Royal Antwerp for £18.1 million, has kept eight clean sheets in 32 Premier League appearances. His performance has garnered praise, with former midfielder Owen Hargreaves calling him the "signing of the season" due to his quick adaptation to the high-pressure environment at Old Trafford.

However, Gray raises concerns about Lammens' ability to maintain his form throughout a grueling schedule that could see United playing up to two matches a week. Speaking on talkSPORT, Gray expressed his desire for the club to invest in a goalkeeper with more experience and quality, pointing out that while trusting a young keeper like Lammens has worked in the past with David de Gea, the stakes are higher now.

Gray noted, "I still want to see an experienced and quality goalkeeper. Lammens is a young keeper, and I know that has worked before with David de Gea. But should we give Lammens the chance to be the number one in both the Champions League and Premier League with such a demanding schedule? That is a huge ask."

This concern is further emphasized following Lammens' disappointing World Cup performance with the Belgian national team, where he made a critical error that allowed Spain to score the decisive goal in their quarter-final match.

Currently, Manchester United has Karl Darlow as a backup option, having signed him on a free transfer from Leeds United. Tom Heaton, a teammate of Lammens, has defended the young goalkeeper, stating, "Senne is very strong mentally. I saw that when he first arrived at Manchester United, and he handled everything exceptionally well." As the new season approaches, the competition for the starting goalkeeper position remains a key issue for the club.
