Andre Onana Returns to Trabzonspor on Loan from Manchester United
Andre Onana has officially returned to Trabzonspor on loan for the 2026/27 season after a successful stint

Andre Onana, the 30-year-old goalkeeper from Cameroon, has completed the necessary paperwork to rejoin Trabzonspor on loan for another season. This move comes as Onana finds himself without a future at Manchester United, where he has not been included in the plans of manager Michael Carrick.
The agreement between Manchester United and Trabzonspor is reported to involve a loan fee of around £1.3 million, with the Turkish club set to pay the majority of Onana's wages. Despite his departure, the loan deal does not include an option for a permanent transfer, meaning Manchester United retains ownership of the player.
Last season, Onana performed well during his time at Trabzonspor, making 34 appearances across all competitions and keeping six clean sheets in the Turkish Super League. His contributions were instrumental in helping the club secure the Turkish Cup title. This achievement adds to Onana's impressive collection of trophies, which includes three Eredivisie titles with Ajax, a Coppa Italia with Inter Milan, and an FA Cup with Manchester United.
Onana left Old Trafford in September of the previous year after falling out of favor with the coaching staff. Manchester United had hoped to sell him outright to recoup some of the £45 million spent to acquire him from Inter Milan in 2023. However, with no club willing to meet their asking price, the decision was made to loan him out instead. This move not only facilitates Onana's career but also significantly reduces Manchester United's wage bill by eliminating his weekly salary of approximately £120,000.
Additionally, this transfer reinforces the position of Senne Lammens as the primary goalkeeper for Manchester United. Lammens made a strong impression in his first Premier League season, starting 32 matches, keeping eight clean sheets, and earning a call-up to the World Cup 2026.
In related news, Manchester United is reportedly targeting goalkeeper Angus Gunn as a potential replacement for Onana as part of their defensive restructuring plans this summer.
