Nguyen Dinh Bac Expresses Discontent Over Nguyen Xuan Son's Play

In a recent friendly match, Nguyen Dinh Bac expressed his frustration towards teammate Nguyen Xuan Son during Vietnam's 4-0 victory over Myanmar on July 18. The incident occurred in the 83rd minute when Son, having evaded an offside trap, chose to shoot instead of passing to Bac, who was well-positioned behind the Myanmar defense.

After Son's shot was easily saved by Myanmar's goalkeeper Sann Sat Naing, Bac gestured in annoyance and turned away. This moment highlighted the competitive spirit between the two forwards, both eager to score. After the match, head coach Kim Sang-sik addressed the situation, stating that such moments are normal among players who are keen to find the net. He praised the fighting spirit of his players, which allows him to develop various attacking strategies for different matches.

During the match, Bac started on the bench as Coach Kim opted for a 3-4-3 formation featuring Brazilian-Vietnamese players Nguyen Xuan Son, Nguyen Tai Loc, and Do Hoang Hen. Bac was substituted in during the 62nd minute when the score was 3-0, transitioning the team to a 4-1-4-1 formation with Bac positioned on the left wing. His entry was met with cheers from the fans at Thai Nguyen Stadium.

Bac, born in 2004, demonstrated his speed and skill, making several impressive runs down the wing. However, the attacking area became congested with five players, including Bac, Son, Hen, Loc, and Quang Hai, all eager to score. In the 88th minute, Son and Loc were replaced by Pham Gia Hung and Le Pham Thanh Long, respectively.

Just a minute later, Thanh Long assisted Bac in the penalty area, leading to a foul by Kyaw Min Oo. Bac converted the penalty, sealing the victory at 4-0. This marked Bac's third goal in 14 matches for the national team, his first goal in over two years since scoring against the Philippines in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers in November 2023.

Following his goal, Bac celebrated in his unique style, zig-zagging towards the stands, jumping, and kissing the Vietnamese flag on his jersey while encouraging fans to continue their support. Coach Kim congratulated Bac, noting his strong performance as a winger and his ability to play effectively at any time.

In the match, Son opened the scoring for Vietnam in the 5th minute with a volley from near the penalty area, marking his 11th goal in just nine matches for the national team. Pham Xuan Manh doubled the lead with a header, followed by Do Hoang Hen's long-range strike, which was his first goal for Vietnam. Following this match, Vietnam will prepare for their opening game against Timor Leste in Group A of the ASEAN Cup 2026, scheduled for July 24 in Chonburi, Thailand.
