Vietnam National Football Team Intensifies Training Under Kim Sang-sik

The Vietnam national football team is currently in Incheon, South Korea, where they are intensifying their training sessions in preparation for the upcoming AFF Cup 2026. Following a dominant 6-0 victory over Siheung in their first practice match, the coaching staff has adjusted their training program to focus on recovery while maintaining a high level of physical fitness among the players.

On July 8, the team is set to face Yongin FC from K-League 2 in their second practice match, which is anticipated to be a significant test of their capabilities. During training, players are engaging in tight coordination exercises to enhance their ball control and teamwork skills. Despite the recovery focus, the intensity of the workouts remains high, particularly during 6v6 drills, where the coaching staff emphasizes increased pace and movement to further develop the players' physical condition and decision-making in confined spaces.

Forward Nguyen Tran Viet Cuong, who scored the opening goal in the match against Siheung, expressed his excitement and motivation from his first goal in the national team jersey, albeit in a practice setting. He stated, "This goal gives me more confidence and determination to continue working hard in training and upcoming matches." Viet Cuong also acknowledged the healthy competition within the squad, which he views as a positive driving force for personal improvement.

As the team gears up for two more practice matches against higher-level opponents, including Yongin and Gangwon from K-League 1, Viet Cuong is eager to showcase his abilities if given the opportunity. He remarked, "The upcoming matches will be more challenging. If the coaching staff gives me a chance, I will strive to perform my best and fulfill my responsibilities."

Head coach Kim Sang-sik is known for conducting individual discussions with players to motivate them and share insights on football philosophy, helping them understand their roles within the team's overall strategy. When asked about his preferred teammate to play alongside in attack, Viet Cuong did not hesitate to choose Nguyen Xuan Son, admiring his playing style.

The Vietnam national team will continue their training in Incheon before returning home for a friendly match against Myanmar on July 18, which is expected to serve as a final assessment before the AFF Cup.
