Google Limits Access to Gemini Pro and Flash for Free Users

Google is making significant changes to its Gemini app, affecting both free and paid users. Starting October 9, users without a paid AI subscription will no longer have access to the Gemini Flash and Pro models. Instead, they will be limited to using Flash-Lite, which is a quicker and lighter version of the app.

This decision does not mean that Google is discontinuing the Gemini Flash or Pro models; rather, it is a restructuring of the access levels based on subscription plans. Users who subscribe to Google AI Plus at $4.99 per month will retain access to Flash-Lite and Flash, but they will lose access to the Pro model. In contrast, subscribers to the higher tiers, Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra, priced at $19.99 and $99.99 per month respectively, will continue to have access to all three models.

Google has stated that it will notify subscribers via email about these changes and how they will impact their accounts. Additionally, it is important for users to note that even those on paid plans will face limitations on how much they can utilize the Gemini service within a specified time frame.

This shift in access is part of Google's ongoing efforts to manage its AI offerings and ensure that users are aware of the features available to them based on their subscription level. As the landscape of AI continues to evolve, such changes may become more common as companies seek to balance accessibility with service sustainability.
