Lương Thùy Linh, the reigning Miss World Vietnam, faced an unexpected incident while showcasing a designer gown at the Miss World 2026 event held in Hai Phong. On the evening of August 18, she participated in the Vietnam Beauty Fashion Fest, part of the 73rd Miss World competition, where she served as a lead model.
Wearing a stunning strapless gown embellished with intricate details and a sweeping train, Lương Thùy Linh encountered difficulties as she approached the end of the runway. While attempting to execute a spin and showcase her gown, she lost her balance and fell. However, she quickly regained her composure, shielding her body with her hands and striking a pose for a moment to calm herself before standing up and continuing her walk.
The runway conditions were challenging due to rain, which made the surface slippery. Reflecting on the incident, Lương Thùy Linh expressed that she wasn’t too upset, as she received encouraging applause from the audience. "I appreciate this support," she stated. After regaining her confidence, she completed her catwalk.
Lương Thùy Linh, 26, hails from Cao Bang and was crowned Miss World Vietnam in 2019. She reminisced about her previous participation in Miss World 2019 in England, where she reached the top 10 in the fashion segment and the top 12 overall. Over the years, she has been active in the fashion industry and has served as a speaker at various youth programs. In 2022, she graduated with a degree in International Economics from the Foreign Trade University in Hanoi, achieving a GPA of 3.63/4.0 and holding an IELTS score of 7.5, which facilitates her work as a bilingual MC.
In 2023, she ventured into acting with a supporting role in the film project "Chiếm đoạt". She has also been involved in community projects such as "Because We Are Women", "Reading Station", and "Support for Exam Season". For several years, she has served as a reading culture ambassador in Ho Chi Minh City and is currently pursuing a PhD at the National Economics University in Hanoi.
The event featured 111 contestants competing for the title of Top Model, a significant preliminary contest that determines entry into the top 20. The competition, which began on August 8 and will conclude on September 5, spans three provinces: Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, and Khanh Hoa. Contestants wore traditional dresses during the opening ceremony on August 12 in Ha Long City. In Do Son, they participated in activities such as mangrove planting, crab catching, and kayaking. The reigning Miss World, Opal Suchata from Thailand, will crown her successor during the final event on the evening of September 5 in Nha Trang.
Miss World, first held in 1951, is one of the longest-running and most prestigious beauty pageants globally, alongside Miss Universe. The competition celebrates global solidarity by recognizing women who embody beauty, intelligence, and meaningful community projects, promoting the message of "Beauty with a Purpose".
