On July 28, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam's Politburo member and Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung held talks with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys, who was on an official visit to Vietnam. The visit is seen as a testament to Lithuania's commitment to strengthening comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, particularly in implementing agreements made during Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda's visit to Vietnam in June 2025, and ahead of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.

Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed Vietnam's commitment to enhancing multifaceted cooperation with Lithuania, a traditional and important partner in Northern Europe and the Baltic region. He proposed that both sides continue to boost delegation exchanges at all levels, especially high-level exchanges through various channels including the Party, State, National Assembly, and people-to-people exchanges to enhance mutual understanding, build trust, and create new momentum for bilateral relations.

Furthermore, he emphasized the need to effectively implement existing cooperation agreements, promote business connectivity, and expand collaboration in areas with significant potential such as financial technology (fintech), digital infrastructure development, cybersecurity, logistics, energy, science, technology, and innovation.

Both countries also aim to finalize negotiations to sign agreements on double taxation avoidance and visa exemptions for diplomatic passport holders, which are crucial for facilitating trade in economic and labor sectors. They agreed to closely coordinate and support each other in multilateral forums and international organizations.

Thanking Vietnam for its warm welcome, Minister Kestutis Budrys praised Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements and highlighted the country's rising status in the region and internationally. He reaffirmed Lithuania's intention to deepen relations with Vietnam across all sectors, viewing Vietnam as its most important partner in Southeast Asia. He expressed Lithuania's readiness to act as a bridge for Vietnam into the Baltic and European regions and suggested enhancing the role of both nations as gateways to strengthen ties between ASEAN and the EU.

Minister Budrys agreed that the two foreign ministries should continue to serve as the main channels for coordination and implementation of cooperation contents, and he appreciated Vietnam's market opening for Lithuanian chicken, fish, and eggs, urging both sides to explore and promote agreements that would allow other significant products from both countries to access each other's markets.

Both parties highlighted the prospects for cooperation in economic, trade, investment, digital economy, green economy, renewable energy, culture, education, and training. Minister Le Hoai Trung called on Lithuania to continue sharing experiences and supporting Vietnam in areas where Lithuania excels and Vietnam has demand, such as fintech, laser physics, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.

During the talks, both sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern and agreed to enhance cooperation within the United Nations framework and ASEAN-EU context, supporting multilateralism and international law in addressing both traditional and non-traditional challenges. The two ministers underscored the importance of ensuring peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight, resolving disputes peacefully, and adhering to international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS 1982).
