Thiên Đăng Theatre, a prominent venue in Ho Chi Minh City known for its artistic contributions, has officially announced its closure after nearly three years of operation. The theatre, which has featured well-known artists such as Hữu Châu, Thành Lộc, and Kim Xuân, will continue to host performances until August 2, 2023.

According to a representative from Thiên Đăng Theatre, the decision to close was a difficult one. They emphasized that their achievements over the past three years were not measured by the number of performances, but rather by the trust and support they received from their audience. "Every performance was an opportunity for us to tell stories through art, to evoke laughter, tears, and applause," the spokesperson stated.

In July, the theatre will stage several final performances, including plays like 'Revealed', '13 Masters', and 'The House Without Men', culminating with the piece 'Where the End Begins'. On the evening of July 9, during the final performance of 'Teacher Duyen', many actors, including Thành Lộc and Kim Xuân, expressed their regret and took commemorative photos backstage.

Thành Lộc, a prominent figure in the theatre, announced his departure from Thiên Đăng at the end of July, following the last show. Thiên Đăng was established in September 2020 and quickly became a hub for veteran talents, including Hữu Châu and Kim Xuân, along with popular actors like Mỹ Duyên and Vân Trang.

The theatre gained popularity through various productions such as 'Giáng Hương', '13 Masters', and 'Teacher Duyen', with some shows selling out quickly. Notably, 'Giáng Hương', directed by Thành Lộc, won a gold medal at the Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Festival.

In addition to acting, Thành Lộc played a significant role in artistic direction and production, aiming to continue his passion for theatre well into his sixties. He has also introduced numerous Broadway-style productions to promote this genre among younger audiences.

Unfortunately, many theatres in Ho Chi Minh City have faced closure due to ineffective operations. In 2018, the Nụ Cười Mới Theatre, once a cherished venue of the late artist Hữu Lộc, ceased operations after 14 years. Similarly, artist Hồng Vân announced the closure of her SuperBowl theatre that same year due to high rental costs and insufficient ticket sales to cover actor fees.
