China purchases this product from Vietnam at exceptionally high prices

Statistics from the General Department of Customs, in the first three months of 2023, our country exported 21,300 tons of tea of all kinds, earning 35.2 million USD, down 7.1% in volume and 4.1% in value compared to the same period in 2022.
Tea's average export price rose 3.2% from the same time previous year to 1,651.4 USD/ton.

The volume and value of tea exports to the major markets declined at the end of the first quarter of 2023. Shipments to the US market had the highest decline among Vietnamese tea's primary export destinations, with 44.5% in volume and 51.8% in value.
Other markets, including Taiwan (China), Russia, Indonesia, and Malaysia, had output decline by 8.6-29.6% and value down by 8.-26.6% relative to the same time the previous year.

Other markets such as Taiwan (China), Russia, Indonesia, and Malaysia recorded a decrease in output at 8.6-29.6% and 8-26.6% in value over the same period last year.
Pakistan is the largest customer of Vietnamese tea. However, in the first quarter of 2023, exports to this market only increased by 3% in volume but decreased by 0.3% in value compared to the same period in 2022.
In contrast, during the first three months of 2023, tea shipments to Saudi Arabia, China, India, and Iraq rose significantly.
In particular, the first quarter of 2023 saw a dramatic increase in tea shipments to China.
735 tons of tea were exported to this market, bringing in close to 2.2 million USD, an increase of 154.3% in volume and 430.3% in value compared to the same time in 2022.

Notably, in the first quarter of 2023, the average price of tea exports to China jumped to $2,930.4 per ton, up 108.5 percent over the same period last year.
China is the ninth largest exporter of tea to Vietnam in terms of output. However, the price of tea sent to China is far and away the highest, being roughly 1.7 times more than Pakistan (a major consumer of Vietnamese tea), 3.8 times higher than Malaysia, and 2.3 times higher than the US.
It is important to note that China is a significant global exporter of tea.
According to China Customs, the country's tea exports totaled 50.3 thousand tons in the first two months of 2023, valued at 244.5 million USD, a decrease of 20.8% in volume and 30.4% in volume value over the same time in 2022. In the first two months of 2023, the average export price of tea was close to $4,861/ton, a 12.2% decrease from the same period in 2022.
According to industry experts, the reopening of China after the Covid-19 epidemic was the main factor that made tea exports to this market grow strongly in the first months of this year.
In fact, besides tea, other commodities exported to the Chinese market as rice, vegetables, etc.., recorded strong growth in the first quarter of 2023.
