HCMC - The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has written to the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and local carriers asking them to give first priority to flights transporting Covid-19 vaccines to land.
As the Government has stressed the urgent need to import Covid-19 vaccines, flights that will be transporting vaccines to Vietnam is expected to rise in the near future, said CAAV.
The authority also told air carriers to state the purpose when they seek permission to fly and inform air traffic controllers so that they can recognize the flights and give them first priority to land, the local media reported.
The authority told ACV to prepare infrastructure for these flights, helping shorten the vaccine transportation time and ensure the quality of the vaccines.
Vietnam is expected to receive 150-170 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine this year, with 30 million doses provided by Britain’s AstraZeneca, 31 million doses by Pfizer/BioNTech, five million doses by the United States’ Moderna, 20 million doses by Russia’s Sputnik V and 38.9 million doses by Covax Facility, according to the Ministry of Health.
On June 4, over 2.8 million doses of British drugmaker AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine provided by Covax Facility arrived in Vietnam.
Last week, Vietnam Airlines offered several units free vaccine transportation services between Hanoi, HCMC, Nha Trang and Buon Ma Thuot.
