The upcoming 2026 Asian Film Festival in Da Nang will showcase 11 Vietnamese films competing for awards.

The Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF IV) recently wrapped up, honoring exceptional films in various categories, including Vietnamese and Asian cinema. The festival highlighted the creativity and cultural richness of the films presented, showcasing a blend of real-life inspirations, cultural narratives, and modern storytelling.
The film "Airborne Duel" won the Best Film award at DANAFF IV. Inspired by actual hijacking incidents in Vietnam post-1975, it follows Bình and his teammates aboard flight HVN602 as they confront a hijacking. The film not only depicts the intense psychological battle between security forces and hijackers but also portrays the pioneers of aviation safety in post-war Vietnam. Prior to its recognition at DANAFF IV, "Airborne Duel" had already garnered accolades at various domestic awards, including the Silver Lotus and awards for Best Director and Best Supporting Actor at the 24th Vietnam Film Festival.
In addition to winning Best Film, lead actor Thái Hòa was also awarded Best Actor for his role as the antagonist in the film.
Another notable film, "The Quest for Long Diên Hương," received the Jury's Special Award. This adventure-comedy intertwines cultural values from Vietnam's coastal regions with an engaging storyline. Set in the fishing village of An Hải, the plot kicks off with the theft of the sacred Long Diên Hương treasure, leading Tâm and his friends on a thrilling chase that emphasizes community spirit and the preservation of traditional values. Director Dương Minh Chiến also won Best Director for this film.
In the Asian film category, "Full Plate" was awarded Best Film, with Kirti Kulhari winning Best Actress for her portrayal of Amreen, a poor Muslim woman in Mumbai who must navigate class differences and societal pressures after her husband's accident. The film's humorous yet poignant narrative captures Amreen's struggle for independence amidst familial and social challenges.
"Numb," which earned a Jury's Special Award, tells the story of Daichi, a young man from a violent family background who loses his ability to speak. His journey back to his hometown to find his long-lost father reveals deep-seated family secrets and personal trauma.
Other awards included "Red Rain" winning the NETPAC award for Outstanding Vietnamese Film, inspired by the historical events of the Vietnam War. The film depicts the 81-day battle for Quang Tri Citadel in 1972, focusing on the resilience of young soldiers and their families.
"I’ll See You on the Solar Eclipse" won the Audience Favorite award, while the film "Roid" from Bangladesh received the Critics' Choice for Outstanding Asian Film.
