People living down alleys in Ho Chi Minh City have turned busy these days to embellish their neighborhoods to celebrate the 2022 Tet, or Vietnamese Lunar New Year, holiday which falls on February 1.
Alleys on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Pham Ngu Lao, Tran Hung Dao streets in District 1 and Truong Sa Street in Binh Thanh District have donned colorful Tet-themed decorations, including flower baskets made from recycled plastic bottles, plastic yellow apricot and peach blossom trees, models of banh chung (square glutinous rice cake) and banh tet (cylindrical glutinous rice cake), and more.
A representative of Quarter 6 in District 1’s Pham Ngu Lao Ward authorities said the neighborhood spent more than 10 days on decoration.
“It was a horrible pandemic year, so our quarter wants to create a Tet-themed corner for local residents to enjoy and have fun,” she said.
“Seeing these decorations make me more eager to come back home and enjoy Tet holiday with my family,” Phan Ngoc Dat said while visiting a well-decorated alley on Tran Hung Dao Street in District 1.
