Singapore looks ahead to the future of travel
HÀ NỘI — The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has announced a new initiative to reimagine travel for Singapore by sparking conversations, stories and ideas to collectively shape the future of the sector.
Called 'SingapoReimagine', this platform will kick off with 'Reimagine Travel - Global Conversations', a series of forums around the world to catalyse discussions on how to reshape global travel.
STB will also roll out 'Reimagine Travel in Singapore', a series of engagements with members of the local community and tourism partners to create ideas and spur the renewal of Singapore tourism. This complements the SingapoRediscovers domestic campaign, which encourages locals to rediscover and reconnect with Singapore’s hidden gems and experiences.
“COVID-19 is the biggest crisis we have ever faced in travel and tourism. But it also offers us an opportunity to reset and revive our industries in ways that we never imagined was possible a year ago.
"The journey to reimagine travel has already started in Singapore, and we want to continue this journey with those whose voices matter – our community in Singapore, and our partners here and around the world.
"We look forward to co-creating ideas and strategies with all of them, to make travel better,” said STB Chief Executive Keith Tan.
In Viet Nam, STB will work with well-known local personalities who have enjoyed previous visits to Singapore to share memories with their friends and families, while reimagining new destinations and innovative offerings, as well as how the future of travel may look in the city.
For a start, STB has worked with Vietnamese model Bằng Lăng to provide a lens of what life is like amidst COVID-19. Through a three-part lifestyle video series released between January and March 2021, she will take the viewers through her favourite places to hang out with friends and family – while feeling secure and safe due to the safety precautions in Singapore.
According to STB Vietnam Director Sherleen Seah, Viet Nam is an important market to Singapore’s tourism industry, with close to 600,000 Vietnamese tourists visiting the country in 2019 – ranking 11th in total arrivals to Singapore.
“While travel has been challenging due to the pandemic, SingapoReimagine is a demonstration of our ongoing efforts to maintain Singapore’s position as top-of-mind destination to Vietnamese leisure and business travellers. We hope that through SingapoReimagine, Vietnamese visitors can experience and enjoy Singapore from afar and reimagine what the future of travel will look like until international travel is possible again,” she said. — VNS
