Foreign Investors Sell Nearly 2 Trillion VND Amid VN-Index Drop

On July 22, 2026, the VN-Index experienced a significant drop, losing 62 points and closing at 1,668 points, which marked a breach of the 1,700-point threshold. This decline was exacerbated by heavy selling from foreign investors, who sold a net total of approximately 1.921 trillion VND across the market.

During this trading session, the liquidity on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) reached over 23 trillion VND. Foreign investors were notably active in selling, with a net sell-off of around 1.936 trillion VND on HoSE alone. In contrast, on the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX), foreign investors made a net purchase of 14 billion VND.

Among the stocks that attracted foreign investment, Vinamilk (VNM) was the most purchased, with a value exceeding 165 billion VND. Other stocks such as Hoa Phat Group (HPG) and GEE also saw significant foreign buying, amounting to 52 billion VND and 27 billion VND, respectively.

Conversely, the stock that faced the most pressure from foreign selling was SSI, which saw a net sell-off of 291 billion VND. Following SSI, Vingroup (VIC) and Vietcombank (VCB) also experienced substantial foreign selling, with net amounts of 207 billion VND and 201 billion VND, respectively.

On the HNX, the stock SHS was the most favored by foreign investors, receiving a net purchase of 17 billion VND. Other stocks such as CEO also saw net buying, while TNG faced a net sell-off of 9 billion VND. PHP on UPCOM was another stock that attracted foreign selling, with a net amount of 8 billion VND.

This trading session reflects the ongoing volatility in the Vietnamese stock market, as foreign investors react to market conditions. The heavy selling pressure from foreign entities has raised concerns among local investors about the future direction of the VN-Index.
