Losing trillions, Vietjet still contributes 4,350 billion VND to the State budget

Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company has just announced its financial statements of the year 2022 with consolidated business results at a loss, but the airline still contributed 4,350 billion VND to the budget.


Specifically, the audit results showed that Vietjet's consolidated revenue reached more than 40,141 billion dong, of which air transport revenue reached 33,077 billion dong, the loss was 2,261 billion dong after-tax; was not significantly different from self-reported.

According to a representative of this airline, in 2022, the cost of jet fuel increased more than 60%, averaging at 130 USD/barrel; Technical and aircraft costs rose more than 20% due to the slow global supply chain and lack of human resources, which affected operating costs greatly, led to Vietjet's business results were not as good as expectations. However, Vietjet always puts flight safety on top with technical reliability reached at 99.06%.


In 2022, Vietjet carried out 116,000 flights, transported 20.5 million passengers on 103 domestic and international routes. Domestic passenger transport is the major factor that led to the comeback with more than 99,000 flights and 17.8 million passengers. Vietjet's total number of flights and passengers in 2022 reached 115% of the year plan.


The company's long-term assets recorded an increase of more than $200 million. On December 31, 2022, Vietjet's total assets reached more than 68,000 billion VND with a long-term debt/equity ratio of 0.7 times and a liquidity ratio of 1.3 times, which is a good level in the aviation industry. The total value of Vietjet's contribution to the State budget through direct and indirect taxes, fees and charges in 2022 reached VND 4,350 billion.

According to the new business results shared with customers, after overcoming the challenges of 2022, Vietjet has started to make a profit from air transportation in the first quarter of 2023 and a positive business result is expected during the rest of the year.

Although profit of the first quarter of this year has not been officially announced , the activities in the first months of the year show that Vietjet is having positive business results from air transportation.

In the first days of the year, Vietjet welcomes a new member A330 - a wide-body aircraft with its modern fleet ready for a journey to further destinations in the domestic and the world regions. On April 8, the airline opened a route between Ho Chi Minh City - Melbourne (Australia) by A330 aircraft, officially conquering transcontinental commercial routes.

In 2022, after the Covid-19 epidemic is under control, besides restoring all domestic routes, Vietjet has pioneered opening international routes to India, Kazakhstan which promote trade between Vietnam and other countries, contributing to the economic recovery after the epidemic.

In the coming April and June, Vietjet will continue to open routes from Ho Chi Minh City to two other Australian cities Sydney and Brisbane, with many attractive promotions, new products and services to serve passengers, guests during the April 30 - May 1 holiday as well as the summer holiday.
