Dien Bien airport to be closed for upgrade next month

The provincial government and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam have agreed on the closure date of the airport, the local media reported.
At a meeting held early last month, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the investor of the airport expansion project, pledged to complete the project before October 1 this year. ACV said it would complete the airport’s fencing system by June before starting work on its runway, taxiway and apron.
ACV broke ground on the project in January last year, with a total investment of over VND1.4 trillion funded by ACV. Dien Bien will tap its budget to cover the site clearance cost of nearly VND1.56 trillion. The project is slated for completion in the third quarter of this year.
The airport will be able to serve up to 500,000 passengers annually after the upgrade.
