Nguyen Huu Canh overpass to be reopened to traffic Sunday

HCMC – Nguyen Huu Canh overpass in Binh Thanh District, HCMC will be reopened to traffic on Sunday, March 5, after a five-month closure for repair, according to the HCMC Department of Transport.

Inspectors conducted a final load test of 180 tons on the overpass on February 27 to determine whether it is safe, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

The overpass on Nguyen Huu Canh Street had been closed for repair after four underground prestressed cables broke in September last year due to a sewer system project, leading to the middle span of the overpass sinking.

With a total length of 600 meters, the overpass suffered damage in the past and the most recent repair happened in 2016 at a total cost of over VND12 billion.

The overpass was opened to traffic 20 years ago and is currently the main route connecting the western gateway to downtown HCMC.
