HCMC – Supermarkets in HCMC are offering pork products at prices 10% to 30% lower than normal until the end of January as the Tet shopping spree has begun.

Supermarket chains such as MM Mega Market, Lotte and Co.opmart have seen a surge in shoppers, with pork, seafood, vegetables, and dry food being the best sellers just ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday (Tet).

Supermarkets in HCMC are offering a discount of up to 30% on pork.

Imported frozen pork cutlets and thighs now sell for VND89,000 per kilogram at MM Mega Market stores while imported frozen pork ribs cost VND69,000 per kilogram.

Local meat processor Vissan has also cut prices by 5-10%.

According to a representative of the Binh Dien and Hoc Mon wholesale markets, pork prices will remain stable this year thanks to plentiful supplies, enough to meet the market demand.

Normally, pork is in high demand before Tet, so its prices rise strongly in the lead up to the country’s biggest and longest annual holiday.
