Holidaymakers flock to Lao Cai, Can Tho and Quang Ninh during Tet

Mount Fansipan in Sa Pa Township is a popular check-in place for visitors to the northern province of Lao Cai.

NDO – More than 86,000 visitors flocked to the northern province of Lao Cai during the nine-day Lunar New Year (Tet) festival, which lasted from January 29 to February 6.

According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, most of the tourists in the locality spent their holiday in Sapa Town and the districts of Bac Ha, Bao Yen, Bat Xat and Y Ty.

The high number of holidaymakers resulted from the provincial sector’s efforts and measures to proactively and safely adapt to the COVID-19 epidemic as well as rejuvenate tourist activities.

* During the Lunar New Year holiday, the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho lured approximately 178,000 holidaymakers, an increase of 10.3 percent over the same period last year.

In addition to popular tourist attractions such as the Cat Rang floating market, Ninh Kieu Bridge, and Tan Loc Islet, the visitors also flocked to newly-established sites including Ong Lang Tourist Street in Phong Dien District, a flower garden in Ninh Kieu District, and a buckwheat flower farm in Cai Rang District.

* Statistics from the Quang Ninh Provincial Tourism Department showed that the locality welcomed over 300,000 tourists and earned some 400 billion VND (17.61 million USD) in tourism revenue during Tet.

The locations that greeted the largest numbers of visitors in the province included Ha Long Bay, the Complex of Yen Tu Monuments and Landscapes; Cua Ong Temple; and the Ba Vang, Ngoa Van and Cai Bau pagodas.

Quang Ninh has set the target of receiving more than 9,5 million vacationers, including 1.4 million foreigners, while gaining around 19 trillion VND from tourism in 2022.

In the latest move to stimulate tourism, the local authorities announced price cuts of 50 percent on tickets to Ha Long Bay, the Complex of Yen Tu Monuments and Landscapes, and Quang Ninh Museum in the first half of 2022.
