Uruguay's National Team to Wear Pink Socks Against India

The Uruguayan national football team, known as La Celeste, is set to make history by wearing pink socks in their upcoming friendly match against India. This match will take place at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan stadium in Kolkata, starting at 11:00 AM local time. The choice of pink socks is part of a campaign by the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and the Honorary Commission for the Fight Against Cancer, aimed at promoting early detection of breast cancer.

This initiative is particularly significant as October is recognized as International Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The AUF has highlighted that one in every eleven women in Uruguay could be affected by this disease, with five new cases diagnosed daily, predominantly among women over the age of 50.

For this match, coach Diego Forlán has made several changes to the lineup due to injuries and other issues. Notable absences include Mathías Olivera, Giorgian de Arrascaeta, and Martín Satriano, along with Brian Rodríguez, who has passport problems. The selected players include Thiago Cardozo, Nahitan Nández, and Darwin Núñez, among others.

The match will be broadcasted on Dsports via DirecTV (channel 310), Flow (719/119), TCC (429), Nuevo Siglo (471 and 475), Monte Cable (454), and various cable providers in the interior. Additionally, AUF TV will stream the game for a fee of $390.

This friendly match marks the conclusion of Uruguay's Asian tour, and the unique pink socks are expected to draw attention not only for their color but also for the important health message they carry.
