IPL Stars Lead India's Squad for Hong Kong Cricket Sixes

The Hong Kong Cricket Sixes is set to witness a significant boost as India reveals a formidable squad for the 2026 tournament, primarily composed of players from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Veteran cricketer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, with 229 international appearances, will captain the team, which also includes IPL champions Krunal Pandya and former all-format bowler Thangarasu Natarajan.

Since the revival of the Sixes in 2024, India has struggled, failing to advance past the group stage in both tournaments, winning only one out of ten matches. This year, the squad features seven players, with only one, Rahul Tripathi, not having played in the latest IPL season. The team is looking to turn their fortunes around when the tournament kicks off on October 30.

Anurag Bhatnagar, director of marketing and commercial for Cricket Hong Kong, expressed gratitude towards the Indian cricket authorities for their support in assembling what he believes is one of the strongest teams in the history of the Sixes. He anticipates that this will enhance viewership and recognition for the tournament.

In addition to Kumar and Pandya, the squad includes Nitish Rana, Shashank Singh, Rahul Tewatia, and Tripathi, all of whom have made significant contributions in the IPL. The partnership with JSW Sports, which co-owns the Delhi Capitals IPL franchise, aims to globalize the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes, with plans for additional competitions to establish a worldwide series.

Pakistan will be defending their title at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground, with a total of 12 teams confirmed for the event. The Indian squad, featuring seasoned players, is eager to reclaim glory in the Sixes after years of underperformance.
