Vietnam Secures More Medals at ASIAD 2026
On September 24, Vietnam added one silver and two bronze medals to its tally at ASIAD 2026, ranking 18th

On October 1, 2026, the Asian Games (ASIAD) brought a rollercoaster of emotions for Vietnam's athletes. The men's volleyball team delivered an impressive performance, defeating Uzbekistan 3-0 in a match that highlighted their attacking prowess. Meanwhile, several athletes faced disappointment in their respective events.
In taekwondo, Nguyen Xuan Thanh narrowly missed out on a bronze medal, finishing fifth with a total score of 9.0300. He was just 0.0100 points shy of the fourth-place athlete from Singapore, leaving fans heartbroken. Despite a strong start, Thanh was overtaken by competitors from South Korea and Thailand in the final rounds.
In shooting, Pham Quang Huy also faced a close call, finishing fourth in the men's 25m rapid fire event. He accumulated a total of 20 points, just one point behind the bronze medalist from Pakistan. This result added to the day's tension as Vietnam aimed for more medals.
In jujitsu, Phung Thi Hue fought valiantly but fell short in her semifinal match, ultimately competing for the bronze medal. Her earlier victory against a Mongolian opponent had raised hopes for a medal, but she was unable to secure a podium finish.
Despite these setbacks, the Vietnamese esports team managed to clinch a bronze medal in League of Legends, contributing to the nation's overall medal tally. By the end of the day, Vietnam had accumulated a total of 22 medals, including 2 golds, 1 silver, and 19 bronzes, but slipped from 20th to 21st place in the overall medal standings.
As the games continue, Vietnam's athletes will strive for redemption in upcoming events, with hopes to improve their standings and add to their medal count.
