Among their top targets is French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who could significantly bolster United's midfield capabilities.

The club currently has a squad of 23 players, excluding Marcus Rashford and Manuel Ugarte, which is deemed insufficient for competing on multiple fronts, especially with the Champions League on the horizon. To address this, United has already secured the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, aiming to strengthen their midfield following the departure of Casemiro and Ugarte's injury during the 2026 World Cup.

In addition to Tchouameni, Manchester United is also looking to add a quality striker to replace Zirkzee. The ideal scenario would see the club bring in three new players while offloading Rashford and Zirkzee, thereby increasing their first-team squad to around 25 players, which would provide the necessary depth for the season.

Rashford, in particular, is viewed as a key candidate for departure, with his future at Old Trafford uncertain. The club needs to resolve his situation to restructure their attacking options and generate funds for new signings. Although Zirkzee recently impressed with a goal in a friendly match against Rosenborg, it may not be enough to secure his place in the squad, as United seeks a more reliable replacement.

Despite the pressure to make new signings, there is a silver lining for Manchester United in the form of emerging talents from their academy. Players like Harry Amass and Shea Lacey are seen as capable of competing for first-team spots next season. Amass could serve as a backup for Luke Shaw at left-back, while Lacey has made a strong impression on the right flank.

The development of these young players may alleviate some of the pressure on the club to make extensive purchases. If United can successfully recruit three suitable signings, particularly Tchouameni, while parting ways with Rashford and Zirkzee, they could achieve a more balanced squad for their Champions League campaign.
