Tensions Rise in Diego Maradona Death Trial as Lawyers Clash

In a dramatic turn of events during the ongoing trial concerning the death of legendary footballer Diego Maradona, tensions flared between lawyers Fernando Burlando and Francisco Oneto. The confrontation took place on Tuesday, with both lawyers exchanging heated words and insults, creating a scene reminiscent of a boxing match.

The altercation erupted as the court heard testimony from Julio Soria, a security guard who had been involved with Maradona. During his testimony, Soria was questioned about conversations he had with Leopoldo Luque, the neurosurgeon accused of negligence in Maradona's care. The prosecution described Soria as a hostile witness, which led to a heated exchange between Burlando, representing Maradona's daughters, and Oneto, who defends Luque.

Oneto accused Burlando of threatening Soria, to which Burlando retorted that he was, in fact, threatening Oneto's client. The tension escalated, leading to Oneto calling Burlando a "clown" and inviting him to settle their differences outside the courtroom. Burlando responded defiantly, saying, "Here I am, little one, you invited me, and here I am." This prompted judges Alberto Gaig, Alberto Ortolani, and Pablo Rolón to call for a recess to calm the situation.

The judges warned both lawyers that further outbursts could result in their removal from the courtroom. Following a brief discussion with the judges, the two lawyers returned to the proceedings, with Burlando appearing more relaxed while Oneto seemed calmer.

This incident is not the first clash between the two lawyers during the trial, which has seen numerous verbal exchanges over its 27 sessions. However, none have reached the level of personal confrontation witnessed on Tuesday.

The trial continues to attract significant public and media attention, as it delves into the circumstances surrounding Maradona's untimely death, a topic that resonates deeply with fans and the football community worldwide.
