Ruben Amorim, the former manager of Manchester United, has issued an apology to the club's fans for not addressing them since his dismissal in January. In his first press conference as the new head coach of AC Milan, Amorim reflected on his time at Old Trafford, stating that it was a "pride" to have managed the team.
Amorim, who spent 14 months in charge, faced significant challenges during his tenure, including leading the club to its worst Premier League campaign in history during the 2024-25 season. The team finished 15th, recording just 42 points and scoring only 44 goals, which contributed to Amorim's dismissal after a series of disappointing results.
During his time at United, Amorim managed 63 matches across all competitions, achieving 24 wins, 18 draws, and 21 losses. His Premier League record was particularly troubling, with only 15 victories in 47 matches, resulting in a win percentage of 32%, the lowest of any United manager in the competition's history.
In his comments, Amorim acknowledged that he made mistakes during his time at Manchester United and expressed regret for not communicating with the fans sooner. "It's difficult to explain the mistakes because I would have to provide the entire context of my last adventure," he said. "The only thing I can say is that I learned a lot and made some errors. I didn't have the opportunity – and I apologize for that – to say anything to the Manchester United fans at the time, but I am very proud to have been their manager for a year."
Amorim emphasized the importance of learning from experiences and expressed his commitment to improving as a coach. "Everyone learns from experience. I learned a lot. I made some mistakes. I will try to change, but there are things that never change. I think I will be better. That's all."
