World Cup 2026: Knockout Stage Matchups Confirmed

The 2026 World Cup has confirmed nine matchups for the knockout stage, following the results from Groups H, I, and G. Among the most anticipated matches, defending champions Argentina will face Cape Verde, marking a historic moment for the African nation as it enters the knockout rounds for the first time.

Before June 27, four matches were already set: Canada vs. South Africa, Brazil vs. Japan, the Netherlands vs. Morocco, and the United States vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina. After the final matches in Group I, France and Norway also learned their next opponents. France, topping their group, will take on Sweden, who qualified as the best third-place team. In a recent match, Norway faced France and suffered a 1-4 defeat, finishing second in their group.

Norway will now meet Ivory Coast, who finished second in Group E. This marks the first time Ivory Coast has reached the knockout stage of the World Cup. Both of these matches will take place in the early hours of July 1, according to Hanoi time.

In Group H, Cape Verde made history by securing a draw against Saudi Arabia, finishing second in their group with three points, ahead of former champions Uruguay. Argentina, having won both their initial matches, will return to Miami for their match against Cape Verde, scheduled for 5 AM on July 4.

Additionally, Spain's victory over Uruguay allowed them to finish first in their group, setting up a match against the second-placed team from Group J. This win also enabled Paraguay, finishing third in Group D, to qualify for the knockout stage, where they will face Germany at 3:30 AM on June 30.

The ninth knockout matchup will see Australia take on Egypt, after Egypt secured second place in Group G. Egypt's recent match against Iran ended in a 1-1 draw, with Iran's late goal disallowed due to offside. As of now, 28 teams have secured their spots in the knockout stage, with the remaining matchups to be finalized after the last group matches conclude.
