Norway Celebrates Unique Victory at World Cup

At Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Norway triumphed over Senegal with a score driven by Marcus Pedersen's goal and a double from Erling Haaland. This victory marked Norway's second consecutive win, ensuring their advance to the Round of 16 with one match remaining in the group stage.

Following the match, all members of the Norwegian team gathered near the penalty area designated for home fans. They arranged themselves in seven rows, with a drum placed in front. Captain Martin Odegaard took on the role of drummer, waving to the crowd to quiet down. The Norwegian supporters remained in their seats, eagerly awaiting Odegaard's signal.

With each beat of the drum, the fans responded with a synchronized cheer, mimicking the rowing motion of Viking warriors. This celebration, inspired by the famous 'Viking Clap' that gained popularity during Iceland's Euro 2016 campaign, created a memorable atmosphere. Odegaard encouraged the crowd, shouting, "More, more, more!" as the rhythmic cheers continued for nearly a minute.

After completing the rowing cheer, the players erupted in joy, jumping and celebrating with the fans. Haaland remarked, "It was crazy. I think this is one of the best nights of my life." The excitement was palpable, not just among the fans but also within the Norwegian royal family, who were present and visibly thrilled by the team's fiery performance in the rain.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus of Norway celebrated enthusiastically right after the match concluded. Haaland shared a victorious kiss with his girlfriend, Isabel Haugseng Johansen, while teammate Aleksander Sorloth did the same with his partner, Lena Selnes.

Norway's next challenge is against France on June 27, a match that will determine the group winner, as both teams currently hold six points. Norway must secure a win, as they trail on goal difference (+4 compared to France's +5). This match will also feature a showdown between two of the world's top strikers, Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, who have both scored four goals in the World Cup 2026.
