Significant Czech Senate s football tournament for expats including Vietnamese
On June 19, a friendly football tournament hosted by the Czech Republic's Senate in Prague featured the FC
During a match on June 18, 2026, at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, South Africa's coach Hugo Broos expressed his dissatisfaction with the Czech Republic's approach to football. Broos stated, "The Czech Republic relies heavily on physicality, and they do not prefer playing a more coordinated style of football." He noted that the Czech team played very directly, utilizing their tall players to create challenges for South Africa, particularly in aerial situations.
Despite the tactical choices made by the Czech Republic, Broos emphasized that South Africa's style of play is more appealing to true football fans. "If you love football, you will prefer our style over that of the Czech Republic today," he added.
In the match, the Czech Republic took an early lead in the sixth minute with a goal from Michal Sadilek. However, they squandered several opportunities to extend their lead, with players Patrik Schick and Vladimir Darida missing key chances. South Africa equalized in the 81st minute when Teboho Mokoena converted a penalty after Pavel Sulc handled the ball in the box, resulting in a final score of 1-1.
This draw complicates the standings in Group A, with both teams now having one point, trailing behind South Korea with three points and Mexico with six. Both South Africa and the Czech Republic still have opportunities to compete for a spot in the knockout stage.
Broos also expressed his concerns about the playing conditions at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, stating, "This is not a proper football stadium. It's beautiful and modern, but only the grass serves the purpose of football. I prefer open stadiums where you can feel the atmosphere better." As the group stage continues, South Africa will face South Korea, while the Czech Republic will take on Mexico on June 24.
Hugo Broos, a highly regarded coach in Belgian football, has had a successful career, including leading Cameroon to an African Cup victory in 2017. Since arriving in South Africa in 2021, he has guided the team to a bronze medal at the African Cup of Nations 2023 and secured their qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
