Significance of October 10: A Day of Cultural and Global Importance

October 10 is a date of great interest for many in Vietnam, as it marks the beginning of the ninth month in the lunar calendar. In 2026, this day is noted as the first day of the month of Mậu Tuất, specifically the day Đinh Tỵ, according to the Vietnamese lunar calendar.

Today, the lunar month of September begins, which has 30 days, running from October 10 to November 8. This month is significant in Vietnamese culture, featuring important events such as the Tết Trung Thu (Mid-Autumn Festival) and the day commemorating the Bodhisattva Quán Thế Âm's ordination.

From a climatic perspective, Vietnam is currently experiencing the third day of the Hàn lộ season, which began on October 8 and will last until October 22. Following this period, the Sương giá season will commence on October 23.

Globally, October 10 is recognized as World Mental Health Day. Established in 1992, this observance aims to raise awareness about mental health issues and promote discussions on mental health disorders. The World Federation for Mental Health initiated this day, with support from the World Health Organization (WHO), to encourage investment in mental health services and preventative measures.

In Vietnamese history, October 10 also marks the anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi, which occurred in 1954. This day is celebrated as a significant milestone in Vietnam's struggle for independence, symbolizing the unity and patriotic spirit of the Vietnamese people.

As we reflect on October 10, it is a day that intertwines cultural significance and global awareness, reminding us of the importance of mental health and the historical events that shape our identities.
