A female doctor working in the obstetrics department at Buon Ma Thuot General Hospital in Dak Lak has received a warning after being accused of demanding a bribe of 2 million VND from the family of a patient. On July 9, Lam Thai Hung, the deputy director in charge of Buon Ma Thuot General Hospital, announced that the hospital issued a disciplinary warning to Dr. T.T.M.N., a specialist in obstetrics.
The decision was made due to violations of the code of conduct and ethical regulations in the medical field during the execution of her duties. Earlier this year, the hospital received a complaint from the family of a patient, alleging that Dr. N. had solicited money when the patient was giving birth. Although the complainants later withdrew their complaint, the hospital continued its verification and took action in accordance with regulations.
"We required Dr. N. to submit a written explanation, and based on the verification results and current regulations, we proceeded with the disciplinary action. The hospital has also emphasized to all staff that any similar incidents will be dealt with severely," Hung stated.
Following the disciplinary action, Dr. N. has been reassigned from the obstetrics department to the Planning and General Department of Buon Ma Thuot General Hospital. She has worked at this hospital for approximately 20 years.
The complaint from the patient's family indicated that on August 13, 2025, when the patient, who was 38 weeks pregnant, came for a check-up, Dr. N. recommended hospitalization for a cesarean section. During the treatment, Dr. N. allegedly requested the family to provide an additional 2 million VND. When the family explained their financial difficulties and offered 1.5 million VND instead, Dr. N. reportedly refused the offer.
