ACV spends over VND 20,000 billion on Long Thanh and Tan Son Nhat airports

Last year, ACV spent over VND 12,700 billion on the construction of Long Thanh International Airport, more than VND 5,800 billion on Terminal T3 at Tan Son Nhat Airport, and other projects.

According to the financial report for the fourth quarter of 2024, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) recorded over VND 20,861 billion in unfinished construction costs for projects they invested in throughout 2024. The majority of this amount was allocated to the first phase of Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai, with over VND 12,745.7 billion. This figure increased nearly 2.4 times compared to 2023.

Long Thanh Airport is being constructed on an area of 5,000 hectares, with a total estimated investment of approximately VND 336,630 billion. In the first phase, the airport will build one runway, a passenger terminal, and auxiliary facilities with a capacity of 25 million passengers per year. The total investment for this phase is about VND 109,111 billion.

The component project invested by ACV has a total investment of VND 99,019 billion, equivalent to USD 4.23 billion. The corporation has mobilized the full USD 4.23 billion for investment, including approximately USD 2.43 billion in equity and USD 1.8 billion in loans from commercial banks. The financial report also shows that ACV has made advance payments to construction contractors for the Long Thanh Airport project. IC Ictas Group received a short-term advance payment of over VND 1,561 billion, Vinaconex (VCG) received nearly VND 94 billion, and Hancorp (HAN) received nearly VND 107 billion.

These companies are members of the Vietur Consortium, which won the contract for the construction and installation of equipment for the passenger terminal (Package 5.10 worth VND 35,000 billion). The consortium consists of 10 companies, led by IC Ictas Group, one of Turkey's leading construction contractors. Typically, advance payments to suppliers are early liquidity payments made by the company to ensure the partner provides services according to the signed contract, based on mutual agreements.

During a meeting at the end of January, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh set the goal of substantially completing Long Thanh Airport by the end of 2025. The Prime Minister requested relevant units to work tirelessly, accelerating progress with the spirit of "eating quickly, sleeping urgently, overcoming the sun, defeating the rain, and not losing to storms."

Currently, some components of the project are behind schedule. Notably, the third component project—which includes essential structures such as runways, taxiways, and aircraft parking areas—has reached 36% of its volume but has not seen significant progress. Meanwhile, the contract for the construction and installation of equipment for the passenger terminal, considered the "heart" of the airport, faces difficulties due to the need to import specially designed equipment from abroad.

In addition to Long Thanh Airport, ACV is also focusing resources on the construction of Terminal T3 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City. They spent over VND 5,830 billion on unfinished construction costs, a nearly fourfold increase compared to the same period last year.

ACV also spent a total of approximately VND 1,054 billion on expanding the aircraft parking area, fuel supply systems, and Terminal T2 at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi. Additionally, they allocated hundreds of billions of dong for Doppler weather radar systems at Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, and Da Nang airports.

In terms of business performance, ACV recorded nearly VND 22,555 billion in revenue, an increase of nearly 13% compared to 2023, thanks to the recovery of the international aviation market. Combined with the reversal of provisions for bad debts, the company achieved a profit of over VND 11,577 billion. This represents an increase of nearly 37% and is a record high since the company began disclosing information. The "airport giant" exceeded its revenue target by 11% and surpassed its profit plan by 53%.

ACV is the leading enterprise in the civil aviation industry. The company manages and operates 22 airports nationwide, including 9 international airports, notably Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, and Da Nang.
