Long An Port holds a special position to connect with Cambodia

According to the Ministry of Transport (MOT), Long An International Port can transport goods in transit to Cambodia.

In the coming time, Long An International Port will carry out procedures to expand the scale of 10 wharves. This is considered an important gateway connecting Long An, provinces in the Mekong Delta with Ho Chi Minh City, the Southeast region and Cambodia.

Long An Port is allowed to forward transit goods to Cambodia.

The Ministry of Transport has just issued document No. 10092/BGTVT-KHDT sent to the National Assembly Delegation of Long An province to respond to voters' petitions asking the Ministry to consider updating Long An International Port to list ports for transit goods.

Information to voters of Long An province on the e-portal of the Ministry of Transport said that the wharves of Long An international port were announced to be open by the Vietnam Maritime Administration in Decision No. 1453/QD-CHHVN dated March 30. /9/2016, No. 1364/QD-CHHVN dated September 15, 2020.

According to Article 76 of the Vietnam Maritime Code, seaports provide support services for ships arriving and leaving the port, providing necessary means, equipment and human resources for ships to anchor and load. Unloading goods, picking up and returning passengers, providing transportation, loading, unloading, warehousing and preservation services in the port, a focal point connecting the transportation system outside the seaport.

According to the content of the Master Plan for development of Vietnam's seaport system in the period 2021-2030, vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision 1579/QD-TTg dated September 22, 2021, the wharf area Can Giuoc Long An Seaport has an area from the downstream of Lo canal to the confluence of Can Giuoc and Can Giuoc rivers, with the function of serving socio-economic development of Long An province and surrounding areas, with general and container wharves. , bulk cargo, liquid/gas cargo, and receiving ships with a tonnage of up to 70,000 tons or larger by the operating conditions of the maritime channel.

According to the Ministry of Transport, based on the approved planning and regulations of maritime law, Long An international port - located in the Can Giuoc port area, is allowed to receive domestic and foreign ships to perform cargo services by the approved and announced seaport planning specific to the port.

Long An Port also has no restrictions on market access for goods, no restrictions on transit goods, domestic goods or import and export goods.

According to the authorities, it is necessary to comply with the Agreement's provisions between the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Royal Government of Cambodia on waterway transport and Circular No. 13/2023/TT-BGTVT dated March 30. /6/2023 of the Ministry of Transport amending and supplementing many articles of Circulars guiding the implementation of many articles of the Agreement between the Government of Vietnam and the Royal Government of Cambodia on waterway transport.

Return to Long An Port.

Due to its favourable geographical position, Long An International Port is a convenient bridge for trade between Ho Chi Minh City, 12 Southwest provinces, Cambodia and the East Sea.

On June 24, Long An International Port organized the merger of 7 wharves and officially opened container cargo service.

According to the introduction, Long An International Port has an area of 147 hectares and is located in Tan Tap commune, Can Giuoc district, Long An. The total length from Wharf No. 1 to Wharf No. 7 is 1,670m. The project has a total investment of more than 500 million USD, including 6 STS crane equipment and 18 RTG cranes manufactured and assembled 100% in Japan by Mitsui E&S Machinery - a unit with hundreds of years of experience in the heavy industry.

Long An International Port is part of a 1,935-hectare master project, including the Long An International Port cluster, Long An Southeast Asia Industrial Park, logistics service centre, and Long An International Port urban area.

A representative of Dongtam Group - the project investor - said that Long An Port aims to become a recognized international seaport in Asia. The port area is invested in systematic technical infrastructure with 1 million m2 of warehouse yards, full internal amenities, auxiliary works and means of transportation.

Currently, the port receives ships of up to 70,000 DWT. Goods through the port will reach 2 million and 2.2 million tons in 2021 and 2022, respectively, specializing in exploiting container goods and traditional goods such as agricultural and aquatic products, fertilizer, iron and steel, machinery and equipment, super long and super heavy items.

In the next stage of development, Long An International Port carries out procedures to expand the scale of 10 wharves, including 1 wharf specializing in exploiting liquid cargo/liquefied petroleum gas, 3 pontoon berths for mooring ships, one Large cruise ship reception centre, welcoming domestic and international tourists.

When completed, the port will have the largest continuous length of harbour in Vietnam, 2,368m, and receive ships of up to 100,000 DWT.

Gateway connecting to Cambodia.

Long An International Port provides services at optimal costs to help reduce product costs, thereby increasing competitiveness for businesses, shipping units and shipping lines. Trading with Long An International Port is also extremely convenient as the port is far from the city. Ho Chi Minh is only 38 km away along Highway 50 and only 21 nautical miles from Buoy 0.

Long An International Port focuses on investing in infrastructure and equipment to reduce congestion and save time and costs for customers. This is also considered an alternative solution for Ho Chi Minh City's often congested port system.

In June, in Decision 686 of the Prime Minister approving Long An Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, the vision to 2050 had an important content of setting the goal of making Long An a gateway and hub by 2030. cargo transit center and warehouse connecting provinces in the Mekong Delta with Ho Chi Minh City, the Southeast region and Cambodia.
