HCMC - The University Medical Center – a major hospital under the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in HCMC – has closed after a nurse of its neurology department tested positive for Covid-19.

The nurse’s husband has also been found to have the coronavirus after developing symptoms such as cough and fever. Both of them have been sent to the Can Gio Covid-19 Treatment Hospital for treatment.

All 336 people who work at the neurology department or who came into close contact with the nurse have just tested negative for the disease.

Besides, a man working at a photocopy shop in front of the hospital tested positive for Covid-19 following a quick test but then tested negative in a real-time polymerase chain reaction test.

The HCMC University of Medicine and Pharmacy has also taken samples from 510 inpatients for Covid-19 tests.

The hospital has locked down the neurology department and stopped receiving patients.

Officers from the HCMC Pasteur Institute and the HCMC Center for Disease Control visited the hospital for a further epidemiological investigation.

The HCMC University of Medicine and Pharmacy is one of the city’s frontline hospitals. It receives 5,000-6,000 people coming for treatment or health examinations a day.
