After more than half a month of cold weather and changing temperatures, 'mai anh dao' (cherry-like apricot blossoms) plants are blossoming throughout Da Lat in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.
'Mai anh dao' is regarded as a symbol of spring in Da Lat, when the city and surrounding areas with the same altitude and climate are carpeted in pink.

When the 'mai anh dao' are in full bloom, locals and tourists can experience two opposing types of weather in a single day.
Visitors may enjoy the city's greatest weather, which includes golden sunshine that lasts longer than usual and a dry atmosphere.
However, the considerable temperature difference between early morning and midday to evening can cause bad weather.
‘Mai anh dao’ flowers often bloom on the outskirts of Da Lat first because of the higher altitude and temperature difference, before moving on to the city.
This year, though, the flowers blossomed at the same time all around the city.
While the older trees start to blossom, the younger have finished shearing their leaves and are starting to bloom with flowers.
The ‘mai anh dao’ started to bloom two weeks earlier than expected this year.
Numerous tourists who adore the flowers but did not intend to visit Da Lat during the Christmas or New Year holidays are surprised to learn about their early bloom.
Many folks have made it their mission to visit Da Lat and photograph the ‘mai anh dao' in full bloom.
Locals disclose that the 'mai anh dao' plants have just begun to flower and will continue to do so for the next two weeks.
Within two weeks of entering the peak bloom cycle, the flower petals will begin to fade and the cycle will come to an end.
However, two weeks depends on the weather forecast for the next month staying bright and breezy. If it starts to rain, the flowering period will last about a week.
‘Mai anh dao’ flowers develop leaves and little fruits in their stead after the blooming period has ended.
The most beautiful 'mai anh dao' are presently found at the foot of Lang Biang Mountain in Lat Commune, Lac Duong District, Da Nhim Commune in Lac Duong Town, and Cau Dat Farm.
