Two TikTokers from the UK and Lebanon are teaching netizens around the world how to make Vietnamese pho in the comfort of their own homes.
Pho, Vietnam's national dish which has gained global popularity in recent years, is a noodle soup consisting of broth and banh pho (rice noodles) served with pieces of either beef or chicken.
In a video posted on her TikTok channel @abir.sag in early October, Lebanese Abir Saghir impressed her followers by sharing how to cook a traditional bowl of pho.
The video is part of a series of TikTok videos Saghir has uploaded of herself cooking dishes from around the world.
With the trendy Vietnamese song 'Hai Phut Hon' by singer Cao playing in the background, Saghir boiled some water to cook beef bones and meat before adding charred ginger and onion to the pot.
She then flavored the broth with star anise, cinnamon, coriander seeds, cloves, fish sauce, and sugar.
Most impressively, she made her own pho-style noodles from flour.
With her soup complete, Saghir filled a bowl with her noodles, raw beef, herbs, and chili, before pouring in her broth.
Her video has so far been watched more than 14.1 million times and been ‘loved’ 2.2 million times.
Since posting the video, Saghir has been praised by fans around the world, with many Vietnamese thankful for her efforts in promoting their country’s cuisine to the world.
Earlier in June, Sam Way from @samseats TikTok channel posted his own video showing his 8.3 million followers how he made pho.
Sam Way, a self-taught cook, opened the video by charring onion and other ingredients and making the broth.
He then moved on to making pho noodles, which seemed to spark some controversy in the comments, with some disapproving of Way’s non-traditional version of the noodles.
In a comment, however, Way explained that the noodles were not in the same shape as traditional pho noodles, but he had to make them using equipment he could easily find.
In the end, the cook described pho as “great fun to make.”
The London-based TikToker and YouTuber also sent big thanks to a friend for giving him the recipe.
His pho video has garnered over 10.8 million views on TikTok and 2.1 million views on YouTube.
Way also shared his pho recipe on his website alongside a list of ingredients and directions.
