Tan Hiep Phat Owner Tran Qui Thanh Arrested

Tran Qui Thanh, CEO of Tan Hiep Phat Beverage Group, and his two daughters Tran Uyen Phuong and Tran Ngoc Bich, have been prosecuted.
The decision to temporarily detain Thanh (70 years old) and Uyen Phuong (42 years old) for the crime of "Abusing trust to appropriate property" was signed by the Investigative Police Agency (C01, Ministry of Public Security) on April 8-10.
For the same charge, C01 also prosecuted Thanh's second daughter, Tran Ngoc Bich (39 years old, Deputy CEO of Tan Hiep Phat and Director of Number One Ha Nam Company). The accused was released on bail.
On the afternoon of April 10, C01 searched the residences and workplaces of the three accused at nine locations. Hundreds of armed police officers cordoned off the headquarters of Tan Hiep Phat Company on National Highway 13, Lai Thieu Ward, Thuận An City (Binh Duong) for the search.

According to C01, the prosecution and temporary arrest of Thanh and his two daughters are part of the process of resolving the complaints of some individuals in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai. They accused Thanh, Uyen Phuong, Bich, and some individuals of committing fraud, abusing trust to appropriate property, tax evasion, and property coercion. These acts are related to large-scale projects and real estate in Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.
Two years earlier, in March 2021, C01 initiated a case of fraud and property appropriation when it received complaints from Le Van Lam, CEO of Kim Oanh Dong Nai Real Estate Development and Investment Joint Stock Company (Kim Oanh Company); Nguyen Van Chung (Director of DCB Company) and Lam Hoang Son (both residing in Ho Chi Minh City).
In the complaint, Lam claimed that Thanh, Uyen Phuong, and several related individuals had misappropriated property through project transfers and business share transfers. The agreements between the two parties were sham contracts (implemented to conceal another contract), essentially borrowing and lending money.
According to Lam's complaint, the actions of Uyen Phuong and these individuals caused more than VND 1,000 billion in damages to Kim Oanh Dong Nai Company.
During the verification process, C01 sent a document requesting the People's Committee of Dong Nai province to direct relevant departments to maintain the legal status quo and temporarily suspend property transactions (sales, gifts, mortgage of shares, land use rights, etc.) related to Minh Thanh Dong Nai Company and the planned residential and service area project in An Phuoc Commune, Long Thanh District. Lam claimed that this land was misappropriated property.
C01 then sent another document requesting the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to direct the People's Committees of Thu Duc and Binh Tan districts to maintain the current status of 33 land plots registered under Phuong's name in these localities.
Uyen Phuong's legal representative told VnExpress that Kim Oanh Company's accusation of her misappropriating Minh Thanh Company through sham contracts was not true. The transfer contracts were genuine and were actually carried out between the parties.
After 20 months of investigation, in November 2022, C01 temporarily suspended the case due to the expiration of the investigation period and the need to clarify some damage assessments related to the complaint.
