Vietnam proposes India open market for farm produce, fresh fruit

HCMC – The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) suggested India open its market for Vietnamese farm produce and fresh fruit during a meeting with the Indian Ambassador to Vietnam yesterday, February 14.

During a meeting between Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and Indian Ambassador Sandeep Arya, Dien asked India for support in granting permission to Vietnamese businesses to export fresh fruit such as longan, pomelo, rambutan and durian to this market, the ministry said on its website.

According to the ministry, dragon fruit is the only fruit to be licensed for export to India.

Vietnam and India will look to diversify materials known as the strengths of the two countries, such as textile and garment, leather and footwear, Indian pharmaceuticals and Vietnam’s agro-fishery products and food.

Last year, bilateral trade between Vietnam and India reached US$15 billion, up 13.6% against 2021.
